About this vintage design furniture

Oil on canvas depicting a spectacular still life of flowers, a bouquet of daisies in a ceramic vase that sits on top of a tapestry on a table top. It presents the characteristic style of the genre to which it corresponds, realistic and meticulous, which little by little gained weight in the History of Art. Also known as still lifes, they usually present animals, flowers, fruits, foods, plants... Their development is part of the context of growing appreciation for painting and the explosion of interest in naturalism and imitation of nature. The artist demonstrates his magnificent ability to paint still lifes, especially noticeable in his way of working with the different qualities of flowers, ceramics, tapestry, and even the wooden surface. All of this stands out against a neutral background. The inclusion of the tapestry in the composition is very original. Josep Puigdengolas trained at the Arts and Crafts and La Lonja schools, both in Barcelona, to later complete his studies at El Paular and the Royal Academy of Florence. He was a disciple of Eliseo Meifrén and Joaquín Mir. In 1951 he was appointed professor of drawing at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts. Although he had his studio in Barcelona, he frequently painted in La Cerdanya and Mallorca. His work, of luminous naturalism, derives from Mir's wake, and earned him great acceptance from the public. He focused his work on landscape, but also worked on portraiture. Throughout his career he held several individual exhibitions, such as the one organized at the Salón Cano in Madrid in 1962, and participated in group exhibitions and competitions such as the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. A few months before his death, in January 1987, he held his last exhibition at the Sala Parés in Barcelona. He is currently represented in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and the MACBA in Barcelona, among others. Signed in the lower left area. Signed, dated and titled on the back. It has an informative label on the back of the Sala Parés (Barcelona).
