Vintage Afrormosia wood and glass coffee table for Stonehill, England 1960

This coffee table was signed by Stonehill in 1960, handcrafted in afrormosia wood with g the original glass top, all made in England. Stonehill Furniture has a rich history that began with Nathan Steinberg, an Austrian furniture maker who arrived in London at the age of 13 in 1895. Nathan established his own business in 1910 to manufacture high-quality bedroom furniture. After World War II, his company became Stonehill Furniture, which was based in Edmonton, North London. Stonehill Furniture had a significant influence on Scandinavian design and the production of other popular brands in the market, such as G-Plan, McIntosh, and Austin Suite. Today, Stonehill Furniture is renowned for producing teak sideboards in various popular designs and teak and glass coffee tables, which were likely inspired by similar tables designed by Victor Wilkins for G Plan.
