About this vintage design furniture

A Garden Egg chair in orange, designed by Peter Ghyczy in 1968. The chair was designed for indoor and outdoor use, although as a design icon and collector's item, it is rarely used outdoors. The chair's lid lifts and closes, and when closed, it is theoretically waterproof. Peter Ghyczy began his professional career as chief designer for the polyurethane factory "Elastogran GmbH" in Germany. His job was to start a design center to show the potential of polyurethane to industrial customers. The Garden Egg Chair is one of the first chairs made of polyurethane and the design incorporates typical features of the time: a space-age look, a UFO-like shape, bright colors, portability and the informal relaxing quality of the low seat. Elastogran/Reuter produced the polyurethane plastic. The chair is in very good restored condition. The seat remains in its original vintage condition, showing some wear. Reference : 273084
