Rustic and practical mid-century stoneware vase by Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand, Sweden 1950s. Lovely brown patterned colors. Measures: H: 16 cm. D: 7 cm. Glazed bronze elegant finish. Signed with GN Sverige. R for Rörstrand. Great patina and good vintage condition. Gunnar Nylund was a Swedish ceramic designer born in Paris. Nylund was first active in Copenhagen and as artistic director of Rörstrand, Sweden. Gunnar Nylund introduced the label "R" in 1931. Nylund became well-known for his matte field-stained stoneware and for his animal sculptures in stoneware chamotte. He was noted for glazes like "Ox Blood" and its varieties of harpeglass glazes.

About the designer
Gunnar NYLUND
Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997) was a Swedish designer known for his contributions to the Scandinavian ceramics industry. Born in Paris, Nylund spent his childhood in France and studied sculpture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1925, he returned to Sweden and began working in the ceramics industry in Upsala-Ekeby.
