Christensen (Alfred)

Alfred CHRISTENSEN

In 1936, Christensen joined Knoll as a designer and worked closely with Florence Knoll, the company's managing director. Together, they created modern, elegant furniture that had a lasting influence on interior design.

One of Christensen's most famous projects was the "Barcelona" chair, which he designed with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the 1929 World's Fair in Barcelona. The chair, with its chromed steel frame and leather cushion, has become a classic of modern design.

Christensen also designed other furniture for Knoll, including the "Petite" table, the "Tulip" chair and the "Womb" chair. His work was recognized by several design awards, including the Good Design Award from New York's Museum of Modern Art in 1950.

After leaving Knoll in 1957, Christensen continued to work as an independent designer. He passed away in 1980. Today, his creations continue to be appreciated for their timeless elegance and contribution to modern design.
