He is famous for his Wogg 13 column, designed in 1994. It is one of the legendary pieces of twentieth-century design. He also designed a line of leather sofas for Strässle Switzerland (1979).
Biography
Hans Eichenberger was born in Switzerland in 1926. He completed an apprenticeship in carpentry, followed by several internships as a draughtsman. In 1960, he set up his own workshop and began collaborating with Atelier 5. In all, over 35 chairs were designed by Eichenberger, including the Expo armchair (1964) and the Saffa chair (1955). He also designed furniture for restaurants, stores, bookshops and banks. His work has been exhibited several times, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Zurich Design Museum and the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein.
