Robert and Jean Cloutier founded their own company, Cloutier & Frères Ltée, in 1953. They were one of the first industrial design firms in Canada. Their clients included local companies such as Bombardier, Eaton and Molson, as well as multinationals such as IBM and Kodak.
They won several awards for their design work, including the prestigious Canadian Industrial Design Award in 1982. Their creations have also been exhibited in museums around the world.
In addition to their design work, Robert and Jean Cloutier have also been active in promoting the profession of industrial design in Canada. They were involved in the creation of the Société des designers industriels du Québec and taught at design schools across the country.
Their legacy continues today through their company, which was renamed Cloutier Agency in 2009.
