In 1969, Kita returned to Japan to set up his own design studio, the Toshiyuki Kita Design Company. He has designed a wide range of products, from furniture and appliances to consumer electronics and home accessories.
Over the course of his career, Kita has won many prestigious design awards, including the Good Design Award, the Compasso d'Oro and the Red Dot Award. His designs are often characterized by their elegant simplicity, functionality and playful aesthetics.
Among his best-known works are the Aladdin sofa for Cassina, the Nuvola chair for Moroso and the Glo-ball lamp for Flos. His designs can be found in the permanent collections of many art and design museums around the world, such as MoMA in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Today, Kita continues to work at his design studio in Tokyo, collaborating with international companies to create innovative and elegant products.
