Raymond LOEWY

In 1965, the designer designed the DF 2000 plastic chest of drawers, particularly renowned for its original pop colors. A timeless piece, it still appeals to design lovers, as do the DF 2000 desk and the X-Line enfilade (1960s). Biography Raymond Loewy was born in Paris in 1893. At an early age, he developed a passion for design, winning his first prize in the Gordon Bennett Aeronautical Cup at the age of 15. He joined the French army during WW1 and was awarded the Légion d'honneur. In 1919, Loewy moved to the United States. He became a window dresser in New York, then a fashion illustrator for Vogue. He then became art director at Westinghouse. He then founded his own design agency, working for major brands such as Shell, Coca-Cola, Loreal, LU and Monoprix. After becoming a naturalized American citizen, he designed the Lucky Strike cigarette pack in 1940. He retired in 1980 after an impressive career.
