Most of his furniture is made of pine and gouged. The curves and shapes are inspired by Swedish rural traditions. His creations are both simple and modern. The Utö and Lovö furniture series (circa 1930) are highly sought-after pieces.
Biography
Axel Einar Hjorth was born in Sweden in 1888. By 1918, he was creating furniture and designing interiors in Stockholm. From 1927 to 1938, he was the architect for one of Sweden's largest furniture manufacturers, Nordiska Kompaniet. He also designed a train commissioned by the Shah of Iran. At the same time, he designed numerous pieces of furniture, which he presented at several exhibitions. He designed the Swedish Pavilion for the Barcelona World Fair (1929). In the 1930s, with the democratization of vacations, Einer Hjorth designed several lines of furniture for these homes.
