Biography
Jean-Louis Avril was born in France in 1935. He graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. He subsequently worked at the Perret-Hervé-Albert studio. On several occasions, he had the opportunity to visit the cardboard factory where his father-in-law worked. This experience inspired him to design furniture in lacquered cardboard. This original concept quickly won over the design world. He presented his creations at the Montreal International Exhibition, the French Pavilion and the Milan Triennale. Such was his success that director Melville chose his coffee tables for the film "Le Samouraï". In 1970, Avril turned to teaching architectural history. Since the 1980s, he has been experimenting with steel and aluminum.
