Théo RUTH

Over the course of his career, Ruth designed many successful pieces, such as the Congo (1952) and Penguin (1957) chairs. Their design is remarkable: both are constructed by interlocking parts, and are therefore fastened without a clamping or screwing system! Biography Theo Ruth was born in the Netherlands in 1915. He studied at the Academy of Arts in Maastricht, where he quickly developed a passion for design. In 1936, the young designer joined Artifort, specializing in the design of living-room furniture. His talent was rewarded by his appointment as Design Director in 1939. He held this position until his death in 1971. At Artifort, Ruth worked alongside such design greats as Pierre Paulin and Geoffrey Harcourt. Ruth had a profound impact on his era and remains a key name in design.
