After graduating, Chan worked for several design companies in Hong Kong and abroad, including Philips Design in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. In 1989, he founded his own design studio, Hoi Chan Design, in Hong Kong.
Throughout his career, Chan has won numerous awards for his design work, including the Hong Kong Industrial Design Award in 1995, Japan's Good Design Award in 1998 and the IF Design Award in 2001.
Chan's designs are known for their elegance and simplicity, as well as their functionality and user-friendliness. He has worked on a wide variety of projects, from everyday consumer products such as appliances and furniture, to interior design projects for commercial and residential spaces.
Today, Chan is recognized as one of Hong Kong's most influential designers, and his work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world.
