Roland RAINER

Rainer completed numerous architectural projects in Austria, including the Austrian National Library in Vienna, one of the most remarkable buildings of its time. He is also known for his large-scale social housing projects, such as the Vogelweide housing complex in Vienna, which has been considered an example of functionalist modernism.

As a designer, Rainer worked for the Austrian company Thonet and created several pieces of furniture, including the 860 modular chair, which became very popular in the 1960s. This chair was characterized by its modularity, allowing users to combine it in different ways to suit their needs.

Rainer received numerous awards for his work throughout his career, including the Grand Prize for Architecture from the Austrian Academy of Sciences in 1971 and the Austrian Grand Prize for Architecture in 1983. His work has also been shown at numerous international exhibitions.

During his lifetime, Roland Rainer left an important legacy in the field of architecture and design, particularly in Austria, where his projects are still regarded as outstanding examples of functionalist modernism.
