Lovig Nielsen studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he learned traditional woodworking techniques and furniture design. In 1953, he began working at Dyrlund, where he introduced modern, innovative designs to the company's furniture production.

Lovig Nielsen was highly influential in the development of Danish design in the mid-twentieth century. His furniture was often highly functional, and he was one of the first designers to incorporate practical features such as adjustable shelves and drawers into his creations.
