Vintage “Mousse” ceramic tableware for La Maison Niderviller, France 1960

“Mousse” Niderviller ceramic tableware, 60’s – France Exquisite “Mousse” model tableware made of ceramic around 1960 by the Niderviller house, in Moselle, France. Factory founded in 1735 near Germany, and in an area with a red clay quarry. This set consists of 10 pieces: 8 plates with a diameter of 25 cm, as well as a large fish tray and an elegant sauce boat. What is most striking is its decoration, based on a gradient in greenish and beige tones, which refer directly to a maritime landscape, compared to the color of water and sand. This intense bright green color evokes the freshness of the sea and the immensity of the oceans. The motif is mainly based on a gradient spiral with white dots that give it dynamism and freshness. Each piece has been decorated by hand, so they present a unique decoration, no two are the same. The same happens with the shape, each piece varies slightly, giving an organic feeling. Stamped on the back “Niderviller, made in France” and the model “Mousse”. This type of ceramic production is similar to that produced in Vallauris in the 20th century, a pottery center that experienced great growth in the mid-19th century thanks to the arrival of the railway. It ended up being established as a ceramic focus with the arrival of post-impressionist and modern painters, such as Chagall or Picasso, who looked for their source of inspiration in the oriental and the primitive.
