About this vintage design furniture

Exceptional armchair or armchair by designer Joe Colombo (1930 - 1970). The prolific designer began his journey in furniture design in the 1960s, at the height of the “Space Age”. Its futuristic and modular vision is perfectly reflected in the design of this armchair with curved lines, especially visible in its white fiberglass structure (a color closely linked to Op Art, a trend also closely related to Space Age), its soft upholstered cushions. in brown leather and its chrome steel legs. For Colombo, design had to take precedence above all, making each of its pieces an object of true interest in each room. The really interesting thing about this seat is that it was part of the furniture of one of the greatest architectural monuments dedicated to the seventh art: Le grand Rex in Paris, one of the oldest and largest cinemas in Europe. Big names have passed through its rooms, even more so through the VIP space, where this piece was located. The Space Age It follows the aesthetic canons of the Space Age style, a style that has returned with a vengeance and is part of current trends in interior design and decoration. The “Space Age” occurred between the late 1950s and early 1970s. It is based on the idea of an optimistic world after the success of atomic energy and space travel. This style has as its aesthetic inspiration the North American space race and everything that has to do with outer space such as space satellites, helmets, ships, the effect of weightlessness and an optimistic proposal for a new futuristic lifestyle. The sphere is adopted as the main morphological reference, as we see in the design of this piece, referring to satellites or space helmets. Aerospace engineers influenced design and architecture through the adaptability of the materials they created for flight. This aesthetic had influence in all fields of design: architecture, industrial products, interiors, clothing, graphics, textiles, etc... and also on great designers. Dimensions: 90 x 57 x 75 cm. / Seat height: 41 cm. Reference : 308206
