Pair of vintage Art Deco desks in black lacquered wood and parchment

Extraordinary pair of desks or secretaires, Art Deco style and period, attributed to the Italian designer Paolo Buffa. Refined and elegant, they follow the style of the splendid designer, made of black lacquered wood and a fabulous parchment. The design, with clean and simple lines, focuses attention on its long legs of decreasing diameter and the contrast created by the materials. With a black and white exterior, it impresses when you open its door and discover the red and embossed leather, which creates an elegant and striking effect. The works of Paolo Buffa highlight the perfection of the execution and the neoclassical influence in his style, which the designer acquired during his training in Gio Ponti's studio throughout the 1920s. This element of animal origin is obtained from the hair-free and well-stretched skin of a cow or lamb, although even squirrel skin has been used. Paolo Buffa (Milan, 1903-1970) The architect and furniture designer Paolo Buffa was born in Milan in 1903 and died in that same city in 1970. He completed his studies at the Polytechnic University of his hometown, years of learning after which he worked with the designer and architect Gio Ponti and in the workshop of the architect Antonio Cassi Ramelli. He began his solo career in the 1930s, his creative period lasting until he was 60 and developing his own style that would guarantee him great success in the design scene. After World War II, his designs began to be mass produced, reaching even further and gaining popularity. Paolo Buffa became one of the most recognized Italian furniture designers, with his pieces still highly sought after among design lovers. They can be purchased separately, €2,900 per unit.
