About this vintage design furniture

Tureen Signed "JdL" Jean de Lespinasse, Vallauris Ceramics, 1961 - France Charming tureen in enameled ceramic, manufactured in Vallauris in the 1950s, signed by the artist Jean de Lespinasse (1896-1979). It presents a beautiful organic decoration created by the combination of different colored stripes that contrast with the bluish background. The ornament is finished with fun and spontaneous navy blue incisions made with a punch. The two side handles have a fun shape, as well as the main handle on the lid, which is reminiscent of a crustacean fin. The color range oscillates around cold, happy and bright colors. Polychrome applied with a brush after the piece has been fired. Signature on the base "JdL 61". Good condition for its age and use, except for a small flaw, nothing that interferes with the overall vision of the whole. Jean de Lespinasse (JdL) was a renowned ceramist in the 1940s. At the end of the war, he opened his local craft workshop, and later founded SOCFRA with his wife. They crossed paths with Roger Capron. Jean de Lespinasse is known for his large-scale works, and his mastery of the art of ceramics through his interplay of matte and glossy glazes. About Vallauris ceramics Vallauris was a pottery center that experienced great growth in the mid-19th century thanks to the arrival of the railway. It ended up being established as a ceramic focus with the arrival of post-impressionist and modern painters, such as Chagall or Picasso, who looked for their source of inspiration in the oriental and the primitive. At this time, large factories emerged, and with them, a true industrial and commercial organization in terms of ceramic production. Since Gallo-Roman times, pottery has stood out in Vallauris thanks to culinary ceramics. Casseroles, pots and jugs have increased the international reputation of Vallauris, especially for the resistance of this material to high temperatures. Picasso's arrival in the 1950s elevated Vallauris to the rank of the ceramics capital of France, attracting many artists eager to learn the arts of fire. Vallauris ceramics are of top quality both in material and design. Dimensions: 32 x 33 x 23 cm. Professional custom-made packaging is included in the shipping costs; and personalized shipping, with tracking number and warranty. Reference : 304521
