About this vintage design furniture

This spectacular Pallas lounge set was designed by the Swedish designer Svante Skogh in 1954 and is a rare example from the repertoire of modernist design. The Pallas set was designed for the Finnish manufacturer Asko and consists of a two-seater sofa and an armchair. With a creative and masterfully crafted wooden structure, this project praises both Skogh and Asko. This set beautifully combines function and aesthetics, while maintaining an elegant and modern look. The combination of upholstered shell-shaped bodies and carved wooden frame defines this pair. This shows the quality of Swedish design and Finnish production. The structures are slightly raised forward, which is additionally emphasized by the armrests. Together with the seat cushions, this angle ensures high sitting comfort, a feature that the Scandinavian designers paid particular attention to. The clean lines of the birch wood finished in a natural shade contrast beautifully with the bodies upholstered in gray-brown and plum colored fabric, giving this pair an open and very photographic look. The color combination of plum and earthy brown only enhances the visual qualities. The set has been restored in accordance with the art of upholstery and the aesthetics of the production era. The set will be the perfect complement to many arrangements. Svante Skogh is a Swedish designer who flourished in the 1950s and 1960s. At that time, he worked with many furniture manufacturers creating excellent projects. The most famous design was the Bodö series of armchairs and sofas from 1957 for Seffle, or the elegantly curved Model 775 Lounge Chair from 1954 for OPE, designed at the very beginning of Skogh's career. Also the Cortina series for Seffle, which includes a sideboard, dining table and dining chairs, as well as a chaise longue manufactured by Engen, are projects still sought after at many auctions. Asko is a Finnish design manufactory that was founded in Lahti in 1918 by Aukusti Avonius, a carpenter. In the 1930s, Asko expanded its sales offices outside of Finland and became popular with international interior designers for its minimalist, upholstered furniture. Asko belongs to the canon of Scandinavian design history. Over the years we have worked with many talented designers. Ilmari Tapiovaara, Tapio Wirkkala, Stefan Lindfors and Eero Aarnio are just a few of them. Today, the company no longer produces furniture, but it is still a popular and desirable brand on the vintage auction market. This set is in perfect vintage condition, after renovation. The upholstery has been renewed. The seat is at a height of 43 cm. Chair height 77 cm| Width 70cm| Depth 65 cm. Reference : 292099
