Vintage steel and leather armchair by Preben Fabricius and George Kastholm for Walter Knoll

About the designers. Preben Fabricius (1931-1984) trained as a carpenter in Copenhagen, before studying interior design with Finn Juhl, where he met the blacksmith Jørgen Kastholm (1931-2007). In 1961, Fabricius and Kastholm founded a studio together, which later spawned a number of furniture design classics. Their intention was to create furniture with a clear aesthetic form. Their ultimate goal was timelessness. The Danish interior designers focused on optimizing form, material and ergonomics, following the functional-aesthetic tradition of Scandinavian design. The Bauhaus also shaped their approach. For the high-end KNOLL furniture factory from Germany, the iconic "FK" chair was designed, among other things, which was the first German armchair to receive an award for good design, the "Alpha" offered here also comes from the sleeve of these gentlemen.
