The images serve as a description of the state of the work. Signed at the bottom left, "Servant 87". Domingo Criado Lobato (1935 - 2007) was born on November 15, 1936 in Tudela de Duero, Valladolid. He was self-taught in his training as a painter, a vocation that accompanied him from his youth. He worked in the carpentry and joinery workshops of Renfe, until, in 1959, he began to collaborate with El Norte de Castilla as a graphic humorist. Soon, he collaborated with more media and worked as an illustrator of books related to the literary and artistic world, as well as cartelist of various public institutions, including SEMINCI de Valladolid. The trends of his art evolved over time from figurative portraiture to absolute expression. The Castilian theme was fundamental in his work, both in landscape and in people, being able to integrate in a personal poetics the best of his environment. His work highlights the exquisite mastery of colors, often interpreted as a creative action of intensity and strength. An international artist, between 1962 and 1973 he spent long periods in France, Italy and Sweden, where he interacted with different artistic currents. His exhibitions were numerous, as well as attending collective with the Group, individually exhibited in countries such as Germany, France, Great Britain, USA, China, Russia, etc. The Simancas Group was a group of artists and intellectuals who, in the late 1970s, sought to broaden the horizons of local culture in Valladolid and thus make Castile wider. In reality, it was the small town of Simancas the last point where these friends settled, but they began their journey in the Relieve Library, located in the central street pucelana, Cánovas del Castillo. The group will last for two decades. There were six most important painters: Francisco Sabadell (1922-1971), Félix Cuadrado Lomas (1930-2021), Fernando Santiago (1932-2017), Gabino Gaona (1933-2007), Domingo Criado (1935-2007) and Jorge Vidal (1943-2006). As already indicated, this group was a gathering of friends and there was no foundational manifesto, but only a common intention: to bring to Castile fresh and personal art. Without common approaches in terms of aesthetics, each member had different training and concerns, something palpable in their artistic productions. However, they were united in the plastic by a great independence in terms of what was established in the Valladolid society, where the academic and bourgeois reigned. They sought to explore different languages of modernity, relying on historical avant-gardes that were not yet fully assimilated in this environment. Dimensions: 108 x 90 / 90 x 72 cm.
