The artwork is hand-painted in watercolor, showing in detail the tools, weapon parts, and mechanisms that created the pistols and rifles of the 18th century.The Encyclopedia provided the lithography.The Encyclopedia, or Systematic Dictionary of Sciences, Arts, and Crafts, or simply Encyclopedia, was a comprehensive encyclopedia produced in France between 1751 and 1772, with additional supplements, modified editions, and translations. It had a large number of authors, known as the Encyclopedists. Denis Diderot was the editor and Jean le Rond d'Alembert was the co-editor until 1759.It was the first complete encyclopedia of the mechanical arts.
