About this vintage design furniture
This rare set of two matching bookcases by Wolfgang Laubersheimer has been manufactured by the Pentagon Group in Germany 1984. The bookcase is called ‘Verspanntes regal’ (tension shelve). It is made of solid metal, rust patinated, but the metal touching gives you ‘clean’ hands. So it is covered. It has a metal wire on the side which makes it look like this is bending the bookcase, hold in tension by the wire. But that is just fiction, it is there for design and has no function. Beautiful design and Wolfgang really designed it as floor to ceiling bookcase with it’s 249,5cm in height. In the 80s German constructors started to build more in standards and choose 250cm as the minimum height of a ceiling in Germany. So the bookcase needs some height to be placed in the room.
