Vintage bronze statue of Myron's Discobolus, 1950-1960

Bronze statue of Myron's Discobolus from the 1950s-60s Very fine and well made, this solid bronze statue is really superb. This "discus thrower", generally attributed to the artist Myron, is one of the most famous statues of antiquity. It represents an athlete throwing the discus. Myron was famous for his depictions of athletes, which explains the attribution. Moreover, this work is mentioned by Pliny the Elder in his Natural History, where the author lists the works made by Myron, representative of the first classicism. Numerous replicas, more or less successful, have been produced over the centuries. The one we propose is in bronze with a greenish-grey patina and shows some traces of oxidation which are an integral part of its charm. Dating from the 50's and 60's, it must have had several owners. When we found it, it was sitting outside on a stone base. Time has done its effect on this beautiful statue which has some small cracks. We will note a small hole on a thigh and a bigger one on an arm. Defects that are immediately forgotten when the statue is in situation. Of great size, it will have a place of choice in your decoration and will not cease to attract the glance.
