Verner Panton

Verner Panton had a predilection for all seating furniture (armchair, chair, stool ...), and modern and innovative materials (plastic, fiberglass especially), all combined with bright colors and innovative lines. It resulted in unique and singular design pieces, which have profoundly marked the 60s.

Verner Panton was born in 1926 in the small town of Gamtofte in Denmark. He began his studies as an architectural engineer at the Odense Technical School, then turned to architecture at the famous Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where he met Arne Jacobsen. In 1950, they work together, and design the famous Fourni chair (Ant chair), which will be a worldwide success. But Verner, known for his strong temperament, put an end to their collaboration. In 1955, he sets up a design studio, where all his talent will be able to express itself: in 1960, he manufactures the first injection molded plastic chair, the Panton chair (S chair). His creative genius will continue to express itself on other chairs, armchairs and lamps mainly. Today, his furniture is still produced in large series by the manufacturer Vitra.
