He is the designer of more than 150 pieces of furniture, majority of whom was designed with their brothers. They worked around a rational approach about function, but they also integrated humor. Sometimes, they also designed minimalist pieces such as the Luminator lamp (1955). Inspired from everyday objects, the Stella stool (1957) and the Mezzadro stool (1957) are always mythics pieces. Biography Achille Castiglioni was born in Italy in 1918. He graduated in architecture of the Polytechnic Institute of Milan in 1944. He joined the studio of his two brothers in Milan, Livio and Pier Giacomo. Architectural projects suffering from the Second World War, they began furniture design with great Italian manufacturers. Livio left the studio in 1952. The collaboration between the two brothers was really fructuous but ended in 1968, date of Pier Giacomo’s death. Castiglioni continued to design pieces of furniture. In parallel to this, he taught at the Polytechnic Institute of Milan and Turin to share his acknowledgement. Considered as one of the most important designers from the 20th Century, he won seven Compasso d’Oro.
