About this vintage design furniture

An incredibly hard to find item which is a superb showcase for Juhls unique approach to design. Famously the Miyajima Water Gate off the coast of Hiroshima was the inspiration for this design, this is certainly evident when viewing the sofa from behind where the beautifully crafted horizontal timber is sculpted and held by brass spacers to such stunning effect. We love the gentle scalloped curve to each seating position on the backrest. At first glance the sofa looks simple but upon closer inspection the subtle details reveal it to be an exceptionally refined and sophisticated piece of design. Constructed from solid Teak with brass accents. It has just been reupholstered in contrasting grey Davina fabric from Kvadrat. These contrasting colours look outstanding on this design and are very sympathetic to the original colour offered at the time. Offered in excellent condition with only very mild age related wear. This particular example was produced in 1963. It features a John Stuart importers badge to the rear. This sofa was originally purchased in New York in the early 60’s before being shipped back to the UK. EU Customers, we can often include the import duty within the price, please enquire.
