About this vintage design furniture

Jean Prouve" Mid Century scal no. 450 daybed; mattress and back cushion covered with white canvas. S.C.A.L daybed no. 452 designed by Jean Prouvé in the 1950s for Cansado in Mauritania. End panels in mahogany veneer and lacquered steel. Jean Prouvé (April 8, 1901 - March 23, 1984) was a self-taught French metallurgist, architect and designer. Le Corbusier called Prouvé a builder, blending architecture and engineering. Prouvé's main achievement was to transfer manufacturing technology from industry to architecture, without losing aesthetic qualities. His design skills were not limited to one discipline. Throughout his career, Jean Prouvé was involved in architectural design, industrial design, structural design and furniture design. Jean PROUVE

1901 - 1984

Jean Prouvé (1901-1984) was a French designer and builder. Born in Nancy, he began working in his father's iron workshop before studying art and design at the École de Nancy. In the 1920s, he began designing metal furniture and founded his own company, Ateliers Jean Prouvé, in 1923.
