About this vintage design furniture
Magnificent and sinuous Art Nouveau bentwood rocking chair, model 824, by Austrian designer Gustav Siegel and produced by Jacob and Joseph Kohn around 1900. In very good antique condition with the original screws, fasteners and the original part label at the base of the seat. Many of the great Bauhaus designers of the 20th century drew inspiration for their cantilevered metal chairs from both the country chair at the Great Exhibition of RW Winfield and the early bentwood models made by Gebruder Thonet and the father and son manufacturers Jacob and Josef Kohn. The Viennese designer Gustav Siegel was one of the pioneers of bentwood furniture and studied under Joseph Hoffmann before designing for J&J Kohn. His creations range from beautifully designed chairs to tables and plant stands. However, Model 824 stands out for its simple design and balanced form, making it a rocking chair that is both comfortable and practical, yet with a striking and timeless presence. Dimensions H104 X W55 X D90cm Seat height 38cm
