About this vintage design furniture

There’s not much I can tell you about Maurice Burke I’m afraid other than he was a designer from the mid 20th Century who designed a number of pieces of furniture during the 1950s and 1960s. He mainly worked with the British manufacturer Arkana where he designed in fiberglass and plastic but also produced designs in wood and leather, and in particular a range of safari style chairs. He was however, also known for producing a range of soft pad leather sling chairs with either a wooden or metal frame and in addition worked for the Brazilian furniture manufacturer Pozza for a short period of time. The Pozza leather sling ‘Alpha’ chair is renowned for its comfort; it’s soft and yielding but just gives the right amount of support where required. This particular version features a dark reddish brown leather sling with metal frame and whilst it’s in overall very good vintage condition the sling has a definite patina that shows its age – but in my opinion this just adds to its character given it is over 50 years old. Seat height: 41cms
