LE CORBUSIER

Le Corbusier is the nickname of Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris. Trained as an architect and urban planner, he was also a decorator, painter and sculptor of Swiss nationality who became a naturalized French citizen. He is one of the most famous French architects to date, with a worldwide reputation. He is one of the most worthy representatives of the modernist movement, alongside no less famous architects such as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Walter Gropius, Alvar Aalto and Theo van Doesburg. He was a close friend of Robert Mallet-Stevens. Le Corbusier was also active in urban planning and design. He pioneered the concept of the "unité d'habitation" in the 1920s. He also designed a series of furniture pieces in curved tubular steel, typical of their era, some in partnership with Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret (his cousin).
