About this vintage design furniture
This is a rare early aluminum pendant light by Bent Karlby for Lyfa. It was released in 1961 in 4 different colors. This one is in a very light copper tone but made from brused aluminium and with double plastic grids for glare protection. It gives a wide soft projection downwards and a light flow up against the ceiling. It has some marks, scratches and signs of ware as seen in the photos. But there are no dents or breaks in the plastic grids. The damage is well reflected in the price. Danish architect-designer Bent Karlby was born in Århus in 1912 and graduated from his hometown’s technical school around 1932. During World War II, he joined the Danish resistance movement, contributing to the illegal Danish Journal and assisting Dansk-Svensk refugees. Most of Karlby’s lighting designs for Lyfa possess a “Space Age” aesthetic expressed in metal, acrylic, or glass. Karlby passed away in 1998.
