He studied at the Rotterdam Academy of Fine Arts before working for design and furniture manufacturing companies. In 1963, he set up his own design company, Welling Design BV.
One of his most famous creations is the "Luna" chair, produced by the Dutch company "Artifort" in 1963. This chair, with its crescent moon shape, became a symbol of modern design in the 1960s.
Welling also designed lighting fixtures, including the "Eclisse" table lamp for the Italian company "Artemide" in 1967.
Over the years, Hans Welling's creations have been exhibited in prestigious design museums, such as New York's MoMA and Amsterdam's Stedelijk Museum. Today, his creations are considered icons of modern design.
