Vintage walnut shelving system by Poul Cadovius for Cado, 1960

Vintage Danish Wall Unit by Poul Cadovius for Cado 1960s in American Walnut. Danish Mid-Century Modern 4 bay shelving system model Cado. This is a rare original vintage floating bookcase in American walnut designed by Danish architect Poul Cadovius. Cadovius had the revolutionary idea to design a floating, modular shelving system that would maximize floor space and signify the end of conformity in shelving. He first designed the model Royal with brass shelf brackets and a few years later the model Cado with wooden shelf brackets. He also named the company Cado. Versatile and flexible floating bookcase/library that allows for continuous rearranging to suit individual needs. Shelves and cabinets can be placed as desired. The wall panels in this system can be placed together or individually, so they can form one, two, three or four units. This set consists of: 4 Wall panels in walnut, width 80.3 cm, height 251 cm. 1 Unit with four drawers, 46 x 80 x 51.5 cm. 1 Cabinet with hinged doors and one shelf, 46 x 80 x 51.5 cm. 1 Magazine/display shelf, 32.5 x 80 cm. 3 Shelves, depth 30 cm. 9 Shelves, depth 22 cm. The cabinet with hinged doors has a removable shelf and ventilated back and top, as it was originally designed for hifi components. Stamped "Made in Denmark" on the back of the shelves. Brackets in solid walnut. A classic piece of Scandinavian modern design in the rare American walnut version. In very fine original vintage condition with natural patina. Only few light nicks and scratches, beautiful grain patterns and color. Three wire holes has been closed on magazine shelf, one 30 cm shelf and one back panel. All surfaces have been cleaned and polished, ready for use. Reference : 283936
