About this vintage design furniture

This modernist table lamp was designed in Britain in the 1930s by Eric Kirkham Cole. Cole was the founder and chief designer of the British electronics company EKCO, which specialized in the production of radios and later televisions using new materials such as plastic and bakelite. The Czechoslovakian lighting company Elektrosvit Nove Zamky obtained an exclusive license from Cole to manufacture this version of the lamp under type number 11105, and it was produced from the 1930s to the late 1940s. The base of the lamp and the shade are made of black bakelite (very modern at the time) and are connected by a steel "neck". The shade is painted silver on the inside and can be adjusted in different positions by moving the steel rod. The shade, in particular, has a wonderful organic shape, typical of Cole's work in the 1930s - although it is most noticeable in his radios design. This shape is not only attractive and modern some 80 years after it was first produced, but it also maximizes the amount of light transmitted by this table lamp. This piece is in excellent vintage condition, with light natural wear on the inside of the shade. There are no chips or cracks on any part of the lamp. All parts are original and work perfectly. On the bottom side of the base is a label with a KUNZ Brno, Pravni oddeleni stamp that indicates that this lamp was used in the offices of a legal department of the Czech Ministry of Health in Brno.
