About this vintage design furniture

Hans Wegner is one of the most respected and sought after Danish designers of the 20th Century with designs spanning many forms. His work encompassed many furniture items but he’s most famous for his chair designs. These chairs are the GE 881 Koldinghus chair that was manufactured by Getama and dates from the later part of his life as they have a more modern look and feel to them. They were designed in 1988 and are made of a simple bentwood beech frame with thick cotton straps and the curved backs make them very comfortable to sit in. The set of 6 comprises 5 chairs and one armchair. The chairs are matched to a bentwood Model DK 7870 Magnus Olesen table. Olesen is another notable Danish designer and is one of the number of new Danish designers that came to the fore in the latter part of the 20th Century. The table is very reminiscent of Alvar Aalto’s table designs using a simple frame of bentwood legs matched to a rectangular table top and is made by Danish manufacturers Durup. The inset in the table top is actually linoleum which is not as strange as you might think as many later Danish designs used this material for table tops as it’s very practical, durable and easy to maintain and clean. It also adds colour and that colour is a good match to the charcoal webbing of Wegner’s chairs. All in all both the table and chairs are in very good vintage condition The table has some small marks in the top as you would expect and both the table and chairs have small knocks and marks to the frames consistent with age and use. The thick cotton webbing on the chairs is however, in very good condition with no obvious signs of fading and no stains, major marks, holes, rips or tears. Dimensions: Table - H70 X W155 X D90 Chairs – H81 X W51 X D52cm Seat height – 42cm
