Jacques Hitier

Jacques Hitier is a great French designer from the 20th century. He is renowned for the industrial pieces of furniture he designed for the house and the small communities.

He worked for 15 years with the Tubauto industrial and created several pieces. They are recognizable by the combination of soft materials such as wood, fabric and rattan with metal tubes.


Jacques Hitier was born in Paris in 1917. At the age of 13, he went to the famous French school of Arts named Ecole Boulle. He graduated in 1934. He joined the Primavera workshop created by the famous shops: Le Printemps. After that, he worked for the Mobilor manufacturer, specialized in school furniture, which produced a part of his creations. He founded his own agency after the Second World War and during the Reconstruction period. He participated in 1949 at the Show dedicated to the designers. The industrial named Tubauto noticed his work and wanted to work with him. It was the beginning of the pieces of furniture with metal tubes he designed. Until the 1970s, Hitier participated many times to the show dedicated to Home Economics.
