Gae Aulenti is an Italian designer and architect. She marked the design history by her timeless creations.

She is one of the most important designers of the 20th Century; she refurbished two French museums: the Musée d’Orsay and the Centre Pompidou. Her creations combine modernity and tradition, they are timeless and successful. We think of the legendary Pipistrello lamp (1965) which always seduces all lovers of design.


Biography

Gae Aulenti was born in 1927 in Italy. In 1954, she graduated of the Polytechnic School of Milan in architectural. Therefore, she became graphic designer and copywriter for the Casabella-conitnuità magazine until 1965. At the same time, she designed different types of furniture including the Pipistrello lamp. Passionate by her job and having the will of share her knowledge, she went to many universities in the world to exchange with students. She liked to work on different project that is why she began in 1976 to create new layout for private and public place. The Palacio National in Barcelone is one of them. In 1987, the French president François Mitterrand gave her the Legion d’honneur, a prestigious French honor. Gae Aulenti is one of the great designers of the 20th Century.
