About this vintage design furniture

Oil on panel "Saint Tropez", Gabriel Dechamps, 20th c. - France Magnificent oil on panel depicting a harbor scene in the town of Saint Tropez. Signed by Gabriel Deschamps in the lower right-hand corner, it is in very good condition. This is a beautiful, serene scene created with loose brushstrokes of blues, reds and browns. The contrast between the dark tones of the harbor foreground and the light, soft, luminous tones of the town is striking, as is the magnificent treatment of light. A complex composition, the viewer is drawn into the scene by the boats moored in the foreground and the action of the man on the quay. The work presents a magnificent backdrop in the bohemian style of Montparnasse. Gabriel Deschamps was born in Bonneville, France, in 1919. He made his name as a painter of seascapes and genre scenes in the south of France. He studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris between 1939 and 1940. His paintings are distinguished by their ability to perfectly capture the region's fresh, vibrant colors and intense quality of light. An artist capable of bringing his paintings to life, he mastered and refined his skills to create works with fluid brushstrokes and vibrant tones. He has painted mainly scenes of southern France and the Mediterranean coast, and has held numerous exhibitions in Paris, Algiers, Oran and Casablanca. Many of his works are held in important private collections in Switzerland, Belgium, Brazil, the United States and Argentina. Saint-Tropez is a French seaside town well known to artists and rigorous people alike. It was a fishing village that was "rediscovered" by neo-impressionist painter Paul Signac. The town's bohemian reputation attracted many intellectuals and painters. The port was destroyed during the Second World War, but rebuilt in 1950. Its reputation for glamour and luxury was cemented by the filming of "Et Dieu créa la femme", starring Brigitte Bardot. Supporting technique: Oil on panel Title of work: "Saint Tropez".
