Ettore Sottsass

Sottsass was a prolific designer! During his career, he developed an interest for color and light. He designed several iconic pieces of furniture: the Asteroïd lamp (1968), the Carlton bookcase (1981), the Westside seat (1983) and the Ospité table (1984). Biography Ettore Sottsass was born in 1917 is Austria. In 1929, he moved to Italia with his family. Even if he was interested in painting, he studied architecture like his father. He finished his studies in 1939 in Turin. He worked with his father before he founded his own studio in Milan in 1947. Sottsass developed many skills with a real talent: he was an artist, a designer, an architect, a consultant for great design companies, a copywriter and editor of magazines… During his career, Sottsass received several rewards: he won four Compasso d’Oro! He founded iconic groups such as the Memphis (1981), the Alchimia (1976) and the Studio Sottsass Associati (1982). Sottsass has left an indelible mark on the modern design.
