Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

He is the designer of one of the most famous mid century modern piece of furniture: the Barcelona low chair (1929). This timeless seating is perfect for all home interiors. He also built several buildings such as skyscrapers. Biography Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was born in Aix-la-Chapelle in 1886. He joined the familial company specialized in stone-cuting. Then, he worked for the architect Bruno Paul in Berlin and after Peter Behrens. This man had a real influence on his work. He guided him to Prussian classicism, Russian constructivism and to the De Stijl group. The architect introduced Walter Gropius to him, the founder of Bauhaus. After different architectural projects, a contribution for the G magazine and the management of the Bauhaus School in Dessau, he moved to the United-States to run away from the Nazism. Thanks to his innovative eye and his unique style, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe has quickly became one of the most famous designers from the 20th Century.
