Friso Kramer

He popularized the modernist design of the Netherlands worldwide. The aesthetic of the piece of furniture he designed are similar to industrial style because of the use of metal. In 1953, he designed the famous “Revolt” chair. It is the beginning of his notoriety. Biography Friso Kramer was born in 1922 in Amsterdam. He studied interior architecture at the Institute of Applied Arts in Amsterdam. In 1945, he worked for the JP Kloos workshop, a studio dedicated to interior design. From 1948 to 1963, he joined the De Cirkel manufacturer as a designer. The enterprise took part of the Ahrend group in 1939. In 1963, he founded the design studio named “Total Design”. He had key positions; he managed the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, the creation studio of Ahrend but also the Council for the Arts. In 1994, he was named Officer for the Order of Orange-Nassau. His work was exhibited several times.
