During his entire career, he designed more than 100 lamps manufactured by Louis Poulsen. His models are renowned for the perfect approach of the light. Hennigsen has sought to play with the effect of reflectors and strips to permit a perfect share of the light without troubling the user. The PH series started in 1926 and the Artichoke lamp (1958) are his most famous creations.
Biography
Poul Henningsen was born in 1894 in Denmark. He studied architecture at the Polytechnical school from 1915 until 1917. In 1920, the designer started to work as a freelance architect but also as a journalist by writing several articles for many newspapers. After his time as freelancer he worked for the famous Danish manufacturer: Louis Poulsen. He quickly met with great success thanks to the PH lamps exhibited for the first time in 1925 in Paris during the International Exposition of Decorative and Industrial Arts.
Henningsen designed timeless lamps which always seduce the midcentury modern lovers. Thanks to the technical he developed, he is one of the greatest Scandinavian designers from the 20th Century.
