R. BENNETT

Bennett studied industrial design at the University of Illinois and began his career at Sears in 1964, where he worked on a variety of projects, including the improvement of power tools. In 1970, he became director of industrial design at Formica Corporation, where he designed laminate products for the home and office.

In 1980, Bennett founded his own design firm, Richard Bennett Associates, which has worked with many major companies such as Apple, Hewlett-Packard, Steelcase and Johnson & Johnson. He was also Professor of Industrial Design at Syracuse University.

Bennett's designs include Apple's first laptop computer, the Macintosh Portable, as well as award-winning designs for medical products, such as the Hill-Rom Advanta hospital bed and the Welch Allyn Spot Vital Signs monitor.

Bennett has received numerous awards for his design achievements, including the prestigious IDEA (Industrial Design Excellence Award) on several occasions. His contribution to the world of design is recognized as significant, particularly in the creation of high-tech objects that are ergonomic and easily accessible to users.
