Dieter RAMS

Rams studied architecture and interiors at the Werkkunstschule in Wiesbaden, then worked for architect Otto Apel before joining Braun in 1955. He was soon promoted to design director, where he led a team of designers who created iconic products for the brand, such as radios and electric shavers.

Rams' work is characterized by minimalist, functional design, where form follows function. He developed the concept of "ten design principles" to guide his practice, which include simplicity, clarity, honesty, sustainability and innovation. These principles have influenced many designers, including Jonathan Ive, Apple's design director.

In addition to his work at Braun, Rams also taught design at Ulm's Hochschule für Gestaltung from 1957 to 1965, where he helped develop the industrial design curriculum. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Lucky Strike Designer Award in 1978 and the Raymond Loewy Foundation Award in 2011.

Today, Dieter Rams is considered one of the most influential designers of the 20th century, and his work continues to inspire designers around the world.
