Art Deco

Originating from the artistic movements of the Belle Époque, Art Deco is set in the context of the Roaring Twenties. It often expresses a certain modernity through geometric and pure forms, but is nourished by tradition and remains the luxurious style of an elite. It is in France that it experienced its full blossoming, between 1920 and 1930, but it was already taking shape between 1908 and 1912 and was truly born with the First World War: it succeeded, by opposing it, Art Nouveau. At its beginnings, Art Deco was purely ornamental, then it was won over by the irreversible aesthetic breaks brought about by Cubism. It gradually died out at the end of the 1930s, supplanted by modernism and international style.
