Herbert HIRCHE

In 1935, Hirche returned to Germany and worked as an industrial designer for Schönbuch Möbelwerke. He also taught at the Halle School of Art and Design until 1944, when he was conscripted into the German army during the Second World War.

After the war, Hirche worked for the German furniture company Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau and taught at the Ulm College of Design. He also designed products for many other companies, including Thonet, Gaggenau and WMF.

Hirche is best known for his elegant, functional furniture, which was often made in wood, steel and leather. His creations have been exhibited at numerous international design shows, including the Milan Triennale.

Herbert Hirche has received numerous awards for his work throughout his career, including the prestigious German Government Design Prize in 1969. His contribution to German industrial design is considered significant and influential.
