Xavier PAUCHARD

Born into a family of craftsmen, Xavier Pauchard began working in the family galvanizing business at an early age. He went on to found his own galvanizing company in Autun in 1907, before moving to Burgundy in 1910 to set up a factory producing galvanized sheet metal furniture.

It was at this time that he began work on the Tolix chair, a galvanized sheet metal seat created to meet the needs of the French working class. The chair's simple, functional design quickly won over professionals, who adopted it in factories, hospitals and schools.

Over the years, Xavier Pauchard has continued to develop new furniture designs in galvanized sheet metal, creating a veritable revolution in the world of industrial furniture. Even today, his creations are appreciated for their simplicity, sturdiness and timeless aesthetics.
