Richard SCHULTZ

At Knoll, Schultz developed a close relationship with Florence Knoll, the company's founder, who became his mentor and encouraged him to explore the potential of modern materials such as aluminum and vinyl.

In 1960, Schultz created the "Leisure" collection for Knoll, which included cast aluminum chairs, armchairs and tables. This collection was a great commercial success and became emblematic of American design in the 1960s.

After leaving Knoll in 1972, Schultz founded his own design company, Richard Schultz Design, where he continued to create innovative aluminum furniture for a variety of clients.

Schultz has received numerous awards for his design achievements, including the prestigious National Design Award from the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in 2009. His work can be found in numerous museum collections, including New York's MoMA and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
